Preschool
Seven of our eight elementary schools have preschool within their building. Crossroads Park Elementary preschoolers are at the Learning Resource Center. Future construction plans at Crossroads Park include the addition of preschool classrooms.
A day in the life of a preschool student is filled with exploration, imagination and discovery through play. From the moment they arrive at school, our preschoolers engage in a daily schedule that encourages independence through a predictable and structured routine, yet flexible and responsive to individual needs of the children. The schedule allows for a balance of child and teacher directed activities and is referenced throughout the day. Daily activities foster social, emotional, physical, language and cognitive development.
During their 2 hours and 45 minutes at preschool, each classroom engages in time for arrival, learning centers, outdoor play, small groups, snack and whole group time in accordance with the Iowa Quality Preschool Program Standards. Overall, a day in the life of a preschooler is filled with a balance of child and teacher-directed activities, free play, socialization, and varied experiences that help each child build confidence in their ability to regulate behavior and express emotions, wants, and needs in appropriate ways.
Throughout the day in the life of a preschooler, an emphasis is placed on developing the whole child to encourage confidence and independence as they prepare for future learning.
